Hi, I just installed CentOS and I'm very disappointed about its download performance.
yum upgrade rarely hits 100kb/s, while my connection is 600MBit/s static.
FastestMirror package seems to be missing from CentOS 8 repos.

Re: CentOS 8 How to make yum fast again?
Since the yum-plugin-fastestmirror has always been complete and utter junk and never did what it claimed, its loss is no loss. It is still present but it's now integrated into dnf but thankfully it's disabled by default. The reason it is junk is that it claims to connect to the fastest mirror but what it actually measures to decide that is how quickly you can connect to a tcp socket. That's a bit like rating the speed of your car by timing how quickly you can open the door. The entire plugin is based on a fallacy.
Your speed problem comes from something else. Check which mirror you are connecting to and see where that is in relation to you. If it's in a different country then it's possible that the geolocation data for your ip address is wrong and it's placing you in the wrong place and thus giving you a wrong mirror.

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
