Prevent display manager from suspending the laptop

Post by ClifRa_Jones » 2017/03/14 16:27:54

I have a Dell ZBook 17 G3 with a Thunderbolt Dock. Yes I know the Thunderbolts as not fully supported but I have it working using discreet graphics and the RHEL 7 video driver from Dell.

The issue is that if I leave the laptop sitting at the login greeter screen it will go to sleep and when you wake up the laptop the Broadcom TG3 network interface will not be active. I have shut off the suspend functions in GNOME and can leave the laptop running forever once logged in without issue. it is only if you leave it at the logon prompt.

I have tried several ways to prevent the sleep/suspend from happening.

1. modified dconf settings as the GDM users
2. replaced GDM with Lightdm and used a startup script to to 'xset dpms 0 0 0'

nothing seems to work.

Hey, may I ask you if you tried to edit logind.conf file

su -
cd /etc/systemd/
gedit logind.conf

Complete manual on this file can be found here: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/tru ... onf.5.html

Or just run man logind.conf perhaps?

did not know about that file. Not a single google search revealed that.

Logind.conf is not the answer as the default for idleAction is 'ignore' it is only at the login greeter that the laptop suspends. Once loggd in it if fine.

I'm thinking this is some bios power management, I believe I have all that shut off but it still does it.
