Trouble Installing Git on CentOS

Post by babyskill » 2014/03/17 11:47:50

I'm having trouble installing Git on CentOS 5.5 x86_64. I'm not an expert at this type of thing, what's the problem?
root@server [/]# yum install git

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
package-cleanup --dupes
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
The program package-cleanup is found in the yum-utils package.

Try running `yum clean all` first then repeat your install. The version of git from EPEL that you are picking up does not appear to be the latest available from EPEL so I suspect that your system has cached out of date metadata. Here I see

Code: Select all

# yum list git perl-Git
git.x86_64 1.8.2.1-1.el5 installed
perl-Git.x86_64 1.8.2.1-1.el5 installed
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!
