Dell Vostro soundcard does not mute laptop speakers on line-out connect

Post by Kelmas » 2009/11/07 10:33:43

Sound works fine on Dell Vostro 1400 laptop with latest CentOS 5.4, but laptop speakers does not get muted when I connect external speakers.

Here's what /sbin/lspci |grep -i audio shows:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)
Any help appreciated.

Dell Vostro soundcard does not mute laptop speakers on line-

I can't see how what you've described can be related to the software. I suspect a hardware issue -- a problem with the socket / plug.

But then again, should the internal loudspeakers be muted when a connection is made to the line-out socket? Perhaps not. It might be an idea to check the laptop's documentation / specifications.

This is probably ALSA issue, I've found many topics on Ubuntu forums. Sadly, none of suggestions worked on my CentOS installation.

On Windows laptop speakers are successfully switched of when external speakers are connected. That's a feature. But on CentOSit doesn't work :-(

Hmm. Have you tried the updated Alsa driver, available as the kABI tracking kmod-alsa package?

Installing kmod-alsa solved the issue. Thank you very much! :-)

I will cover this on Dell Vostro 1400 wiki.

Excellent news!

We should thank Ned for building the kmod-alsa package. :-)
