How to change default language settings in my CentOS VPS

Post by whossain » 2012/03/17 20:21:35

Hi all experts,

I am a complete noob to the Linux world. Recently I bought a Spanish VPS with CentOS 6 installed on it. I am using a VNC to use remote desktop GUI version of the CentOS. But the problem is my system language in both the terminal and GUI version is in Spanish. I don't have any idea what should I do to change the system language from Spanish to English.

I'll be eternally grateful, if someone please give me the commands and step by step instructions to change my OS language from Spanish to English.

Even if I could see the Spanish in the GUI version I could take an attempt to change the Language settings by exploring. But look at this: this is how my GUI looks like:

and also please guide me through how to Install firefox in it.

Looking forward to hear from experts.

Regards,
Hossain

Look into the /etc/sysconfig/i18n file. You can set LANG there. For example, mine is:
LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16"
Or if you prefer GUI, install system-config-language with yum and run it.
$ sudo yum install system-config-language
$ system-config-language
