Networkconnection to the centos server fails

Post by mattyh88 » 2011/11/08 19:20:20

Hey,

I have a CentOS6 system and a Windows 7 notebook.
I'm trying to work on my PHP webprojects (that are located on the server) but my connection (to the server) keeps failing.
I've had days that I could just work without any connection problems but tonight it got really bad. Connection fails after every 5 to 10 minutes.

When the connection to the server fails, all I have to do is go to the server and press some keys (I usually press the arrow keys) and the connection will be up and running again.

I can't figure out what the problem is. For me, it's a problem with the CentOS system. You would think that it's a power-saving issue, but even when I'm on putty working on the server, the connection just suddenly fails and when I would turn on the server and wait for like 6 hours and then try to SSH to the server, it works perfectly (w/o touching the server's keyboard first)

My laptop is connected with a cable to a switch downstairs.
The server is connected to the switch that's upstairs.
There's a wireless router/modem downstairs.

Networkconnection to the centos server fails

How is this topic different from your previous one?
Have you followed any of the (including my) suggestions there?
New questions:
-How are the upstairs and downstairs switches interconnected?
-Is any part of the connection over the wireless link?
-If yes, can you eliminate that link by hardwiring it?

The centos machine is connected to the upstairs switch.
The upstairs switch is connected to the downstairs switch with cable.
The downstairs switch is connect to the wireless router/modem with cable.
The windows 7 machine is connected to the downstairs switch with cable.

There aren't any devices connected with wireless link at the moment.
I'll try replacing the cable from the server to the upstairs switch and see what happens.

Hey,

I was working on my project again with a new network cable for my centos machine. All was going well until the connection failed again.
I went upstairs, turned on the screen of the server and I saw a bunch of errors :o

A screenshot of my screen:

What does this mean? Faulty hard drive?

Simplest thing to try is changing the cable.

Since those are plainly disk errors, I'll leave you to guess which cable! Other potential causes are bad power supply, bad disk and possibly BIOS settings.
