VAAPI / H264 hardware acceleration on CentOS Stream 9?

Post by Gurusrauta » 2023/04/27 23:41:08

Hello,

in Fedora 37 support for VAAPI/H264 was removed from Mesa. Is this also the case on CentOS Stream 9? Because videos are laggy on my test machine with Firefox+CentOS Stream 9.

If it was removed, is there an option to enable it through RPMFusion?

There are no mesa packages in the el9 rpmfusion-nonfree-updates repo so either they are not required or they have not been built. I do not know which. I am using Rocky 9 not the beta Stream.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
