Post by hafizaf » 2022/12/22 12:22:33

We are planning to deploy the centos 7.9 in our PRODUCTION environment

Modules :-DNS ,DHCP and NTP USING

* OS Kernel / Security / OS Patches upgradation & Vulnerability fix is available ?
* Support Level & SLA Escalation is there. Otherwise, we always we will depend into LINUX Forums or Open-Source Community Support.
* Upgrade the latest release CentOS Version Is not possible orelse rebuild the new centos server commission from the beginning.
* License cost

Shall we proceed the centos 7.9 in our production environment and advise me.

No. You would be misguided to deploy new CentOS 7 instances now. It goes EOL in less than 18 months so in 18 months you will be doing it all again. Pick one of the other RHEL rebuilds with a newer version number, 8 or 9, and use that instead. Don't use CentOS Stream as it is a permanent beta product. Use one of Rocky, Alma or OEL.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

CERN/Fermilab chose Alma, but Rocky is just as good. (The devil is in the details.)

What does that mean?

You need a distribution that is supported by a paid support agreement. Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or others. Not CentOS, Rocky or others.

Yes, if you need support then your only options are RHEL or perhaps OEL.

There are companies that apparently sell support services even for users of (some) rebuild distros.
(TuxCare?)

TuxCare is a good pick.
I've compared the packages that RH patched in their EUS 6 offering with TuxCare for EL6 and TuxCare patched alot more CVE's/packages than RHEL did.
For general usage I would definitely go with TuxCare and only in specific cases with RHEL EUS.
