There is no CentOS 9 and never will be. CentOS Stream exists and shares the CentOS 8 section.

CentOS Linux 8 differs from CentOS Linux 7. Separate subforums for these make sense.

CentOS Linux 8 and CentOS Stream 8 share a lot. Their co-existence on same subforum is/was short.

CentOS Stream 9 differs from CentOS Stream 8. Whether separate subforum is necessary due to that difference and whether that forum should be here ... I could quote Rhett Butler on that one.

Did you read your signature? It is called CentOS Stream 9 it is the precursor to RHEL 9. We are not all running Rocky/Alma, the reason RPM fusion does not work is because I am on CentOS Stream 9. CentOS 8 is not CentOS Stream 9 and never will be.

The Stream guys seem to have decided to use a Fedora server for this that runs something completely different. As far as I know, they do not want a Stream 9 section here as they want it all to go to the new thing, whatever that is. From that point of view, I suspect you can assume that these forums have a limited lifespan and will disappear once CentOS 7 goes EOL in 2024. I believe that we did a quick survey of the current forum moderators and none of us were interested in continuing once CentOS 7 goes EOL.

While I can't fault anyone for their decision, I am saddened. You've become the go-to place for things Red Hat to me and others. I wonder how much the existence of this forum played into Red Hat's decision to dissolve CentOS. I can't imagine they are fond of the free advice, nor the resultant free 'supported corporate installations' for their flagship product - that they are trying to sell.

I came from Fedora (13, I think) to CentOS because I tired of what seemed like annual installs on all (7, at that time) machines. Although I loved the 'bleeding edge' features of Fedora, I grew to need stability while trying to learn the O.S. itself, networking, web serving, etc. I've now opted, at least temporarily, for a developer RHEL 8 license for my systems whose hardware will support it. If Red Hat flavors (flavours, heh) 'dry up', you folk have taught me enough that I'll likely be able to work through pretty much any Linux distribution with only minimal learning. I thank you for that!
