update killed my audio

Post by gp_centos » 2020/10/17 01:33:36

your latest update killed my audio? How do I fix it or how do I revert back to previous version that worked?

What update when?

You do know that CentOS 6 has less than 2 months of life left and you need to be thinking (at the very least) about moving to a newer version?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

OK TrevorH, just because there's only two months of support does not mean I cannot use it, is that correct? I should be able still to use it without the support, that's why I do not understand why there was an update! Was it to kill COS-6 and make me to move to a newer version? I just downloaded that one yesterday because the icon became active for new updates. Thank you.

You still didn't say what update. We have no idea what you put on... nor do we know what you had before you updated.

There is a good chance that you were affected by a known sound issue with the latest firefox as reported here. If this is the case, a workaround is to downgrade firefox.

This should show the newest installed packages:
rpm -qa --last | more

I did yum undo 15 but no sound and who knows what else is messed up a result of that. Anyway, thank you guys for your help. I guess I will have to upgrade to centos8 now and try to figure out how set the screen like in centos6, is that actually possible? Thanks

I just ran the tunk's command and yes, it did modify firefox:
firefox-78.3.0-1.el6.centos.x86_64 Fri 16 Oct 2020 03:27:46 PM MDT
kernel-devel-2.6.32-754.33.1.el6.x86_64 Fri 16 Oct 2020 03:27:22 PM MDT
perf-2.6.32-754.33.1.el6.x86_64 Fri 16 Oct 2020 03:27:16 PM MDT
kernel-headers-2.6.32-754.33.1.el6.x86_64 Fri 16 Oct 2020 03:27:13 PM MDT
ca-certificates-2020.2.41-65.1.el6_10.noarch Fri 16 Oct 2020 03:27:12 PM MDT
kernel-2.6.32-754.33.1.el6.x86_64 Fri 16 Oct 2020 03:27:04 PM MDT
kernel-firmware-2.6.32-754.33.1.el6.noarch Fri 16 Oct 2020 03:26:59 PM MDT

Since I ran undo command all that might be messed up because it told me ti cannot find some of the docs anyway now.
