can't open Skype version 8.56 on CentOS Linux release 7.8.2003

Post by Betsy_9 » 2020/10/10 06:25:35

I have updated some softwares in my centos 7 using command "sudo yum update". After update my Skype was not opening. I downgraded it from 0:8.59.0.77-1 to 0:8.58.0.93-1. But it still was not opening. I downgraded it again to version 8.56. But it still does not open. I have tried to open it from terminal and gui. None of them works for me. Any help will be appreciated.

The last skype version that worked on CentOS 7 was 8.56. Even then it needed action to fix it before it would run as it needs the suid bit set on one of its executables. Read the startup log in ~/.config/skypeforlinux/logs and it tells you there what the problem is.

And I am almost certain that the poster of this is a spammer so when the post I am answering turns into an advert for some dodgy product, we'll be back to delete this entire thread...
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
