Two copies of same HP laserjet P1102 printer

Post by man_beach » 2020/08/06 13:34:28

I'm using CentOS 7 as a desktop and have a basic HP laserjet printer installed via USB - an HP Laserjet Professional P1102.
This gets auto detected as HP-Laserjet-Professional-P1102 and then a short while later another copy gets installed - called HP-Laserjet-Professional-P1102-2. Same model, location etc.
This gets confusing when I try to print as I never know which one to print to - I usually pick the wrong one and have to cancel all jobs and then print to the other one. Things get clogged up otherwise.
I've tried all sorts of things, deleting the copy (it comes back again), denying myself access to it - nothing seems to work.
Could I have some suggestions on how to have just one printer please?
Many thanks.

And if you look in the settings for each one, are they identical other than the name? Or is one via USB and one via the network for example?
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

CentOS 5 is dead, do not use it.

Both seem to be identical as regard to location, but looking at the Printer properties for each they have different Device URIs -
hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1102?serial=000000000Q84RSGCPR1a
hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1102?serial=000000000Q84RSGCSI1c

I have no idea what a Device URI is.
