I have a Centos 7.3 system and I am still in the learning process of ins and outs of the Linux. I am trying to install gnome-connection-manager on it. I am actually looking for a SSH connection manager which is capable of opening multiple tabs and most importantly it can save that multi-tabbed session with all its states.
This is the output of the initial attempt...
```
sudo yum install gnome-connection-manager-1.2.0.noarch.rpm
Re: I am unable to install gnome-connection-manager
Well for a start, you're missing about 4 years of maintenance and security fixes. CentOS 7.3 is unsupported and has been since the release of 7.4 in 2017. You need to run yum update to get yourself onto 7.8 which is the current version.I have a Centos 7.3 system and I am still in the learning process of ins and outs of the Linux.
...
what am i missing ??
This doesn't appear to be a CentOS supplied package and judging by its requirement for python3-gobject, is not designed to be installed on CentOS 7 at all. Where did it come from?gnome-connection-manager-1.2.0-1.noarch
You can find terminator in EPEL for CentOS 7. Perhaps that would be a replacement for this? Or I've also seen mention of people using tilix but I cannot find a copy of that in any known repos so that would be in much the same situation as gnome-connection-manager.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Re: I am unable to install gnome-connection-manager
Have updated my kernel to latest updates
CentOS Linux release 7.8.2003 (Core)
but the problem still persists.
I am looking for a connection client which can open multiple tabs and at the end that session can be saved so that I dont have to establish connection to each device seperately.
Anyway if you are saying you havent seen something like this then there isnt.
I am marking the quesion as answwered.
Thanks for your help Trevor.
Did you look at terminator yet?
Code: Select all
[root@centos7 ~]# yum info terminator
Loaded plugins: priorities
Available Packages
Name : terminator
Arch : noarch
Version : 1.91
Release : 1.el7
Size : 566 k
Repo : epel/x86_64
Summary : Store and run multiple GNOME terminals in one window
URL : http://gnometerminator.blogspot.com/p/introduction.html
: an efficient way of filling a large area of screen space with
: terminals. This is done by splitting the window into a resizeable
: arrangements of terminals for different tasks.
Re: I am unable to install gnome-connection-manager
Yes, I've installed and its much better for someone who's brodcasting his commands to multiple stations at the same time. Since I am working at GNS3 I need to look at the complete output of the command I issue and there is rarely any command which gives you such compact result that can be fit into the small splitted window of terminator. Plus terminator is not giving you seperate tabs for each new window, its splitting the same window into multile windws. I'll stick to Linux's bash shell. Will see if can find something that can fullfill what i want.
