Hi,
I am confusing why CentOS 7.7 update with CentOS 7.8 packages now.
I think if CentOS 7.8 released, CentOS 7.7 go to vault and CentOS 7.7 would not be updated any more.
By the way, I can see packages noted with "el7_8" on trying yum upgrade on the CentOS 7.7 machine.
Does it mean CentOS 7.7 and CentOS 7.8 is using the same packages ?
Can you please exact update mechanism for CentOS 7.7 ? So, CentOS 7.6 can be updated now?
BR.
CentOS 7.7 upgrade vs CentOS 7.8
Re: CentOS 7.7 upgrade vs CentOS 7.8
7.8 is an incremental upgrade to 7.7 so happens with just a yum update.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Yes, once you yum update a 7.7 system it becomes 7.8.

Re: CentOS 7.7 upgrade vs CentOS 7.8
One detail is that the path in CentOS yum repositories does not contain "7.7" nor "7.8". It has "7".afewgoodman wrote: ↑2020/06/11 08:24:58I think if CentOS 7.8 released, CentOS 7.7 go to vault and CentOS 7.7 would not be updated any more.
The repository has the "7" as a symlink to current version.
When new version is released, that symlink is updated to point to the new version.
From the viewpoint of your CentOS, the repositories suddenly have newer versions of packages available.
The "yum update" sees the newer packages and does update.
If your system has latest available version of packages installed, then it is up to date.
If repository has newer versions than your system, then your system is not up to date.
