Configuring server as Fiber Channel Storage Server on CentOS 7/8

Post by Kanyoz » 2020/05/27 07:12:44

Hi,
Being quite new to CentOS, I have a project coming up and need to deploy the below:
1. 3 x PowerEdge R640 servers (Will install ESXi 6.7 into each and will be independent hosts)
2. Brocade FC Switch (will interconnect the ESXi servers and R740 XD storage server)
3. PowerEdge R740 XD (will install bare-metal CentOS 8 with LVM volume management and to be configured as storage server)

Before proceeding with project and giving go ahead, could someone please confirm to me whether they have ever been able to configure a server as a storage target on CentOS using Fiber Channel (not ISCSI) connectivity between the hosts and storage server?
Will this design work?
Please also assist on the steps to carry this out if it is a valid design.

It's been a while since I last did FC...

I guess you could use tgt (usually packaged as scsi-target-utils) to setup the targets, zone the I/O via the switch and use the FC card to initate.

I'd just spend the money on "bigger" Ethernet and use use a NAS....
