Unable to install Vbox Guest Additions even after installing headers
Hi all,
Just installed cent os 8 (server with gui ) on vbox 6.1.6 r137129 with windows 10 as the guest machine to learn server administration. I am trying to install vbox guest additions as I would like mouse pointer integration and a larger/higher resolution screen. When I run the ga installer, i get the following error -
the vboxadd-setup.log file contains the following - Any idea how I can resolve this and get on with installing guest additions? THanks
Also, I'm unable to copy-paste from guest to host or host to guest.

To me it looks like your missing some dev / devel stuff?
Did you install them and still have the issue?

Were you able to fix this problem, because I'm having the same issue and I don't know how to fix it.

I'd also add that after installing all the relevant packages that are required (e.g kernel-devel etc) you will also need to make sure that you run yum update and then reboot into any new kernel that is installed by that. The versions of the running kernel and the kernel-devel/kernel-headers packages must match exactly and this is the simplest way to ensure that is true.

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

I got the same issue, even after updating the system using
Code: Select all
yum update

And then you rebooted?

(I did not see where I could delete this post so I am editing it )
I have edited this post to remove the packages listed as there is concern that they are not correct.
I apologize if I have ruffled feathers here.
In my experience, When I have ran into this problem its been solved by installing some missing devel packages.
Perhaps Moderators can just delete this post - Would be alright with me.

Re: Unable to install Vbox Guest Additions even after installing headers
Why? None of those should be necessary and half of them are not CentOS packages so should definitely not be used.

Re: Unable to install Vbox Guest Additions even after installing headers
Hi,
Found them in a page discussing this topic elsewhere. Im not sure either because arch's are different. However, I tested it out and it solved it for me. All I can say is try it and see. As I remember it did install a LOT of other packages.

No, don't try it and see. It's the wrong thing to do, don't do it.
