Install DVD creation support

Post by glen4cindy » 2020/05/18 02:07:54

Hello,

I've tried twice and failed to produce a working DVD to install CentOS 7 and I am not sure what is going wrong.

I cannot find any information on the download page or in the FAQ that deals with this issue.

When I attempt to burn the .iso I am presented with the following error:
Image Size.JPG
Image Size.JPG (26.74 KiB) Viewed 415 times
If I choose "Overburn" the entire burn fails. If I choose "Truncate" I get the following error when attempting to boot:
Fail Boot.JPG
Fail Boot.JPG (61.64 KiB) Viewed 415 times
I fail to understand why the image is just a bit too big to burn.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

It requires a dual layer DVD which is twice as large as a normal one.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

I would have thought that a blank 4.7 GB would have sufficient size. 4700 MB?

Am I being bitten here by the stated size vs. how the computer sees the bits and bytes?

Yes, it's the difference between base 10 and base 2, GB vs GiB. 4700000000 = 4482MiB = 4.37GiB.

Probably not recommended, the CentOS 7.7 iso should fit.
If you do so, run yum update immediately after installation.
