CentOS 8 1911 - Installation issue

Post by Ren06 » 2020/05/09 07:42:01

Hello all,

I am facing issue during installation of CentOS 8 1911 on my Laptop. I created a bootable USB key with CentOS8 1911 (verifying the SHA 256, to be sure my iso is correct). I followed recommandations : https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey (I tried Win32 Disk manager and Rawrite32 to create my USB key)
But I get always the same error at 4.8% of check (see joined image).

Anyone could help me please ? I am stuck....

Thanks in advance,
Renaud

:-( Exactly the same issue with another key ...
For info I create it on Windows 8 system. I have seen there are a lot of problem to create a key, but as I said, I followed recommandations.

Any other idea ???

The check works and is correct so it's likely that you have a real problem. Try a different USB socket as well as a different stick. You could also try reading back the image that you wrote to USB and writing it to a new file then sha256sum that and see if it agrees. You need to read back exactly the same number of blocks that were written to the stick so that you don't pick up residual data from an unused portion of the stick. If the sha256sum of the new file agrees with the original then there's something mysterious going on. If it doesn't then that would be why the check fails...
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Hello and thanks for your help !
You was right : with Win32 Disk Imager software, I checked my USB keys and no one was good !!!

Don't you think this comes from the software (as you said, some of them add something to the iso file ... )
I will try again.

Thanks,

Hi again,

No way to recover the good SHA256 on USB keys using Win32DiskImager or Rawrite32....

Are you sure about these software to keep iso image identical ??
What can I do ??

Thanks,

Anyone knows another software which allows doing an USB key for CentOS 8 on Windows 8.1 without corrupting the iso file ?

Thanks in advance,

The ones I know that work are rawrite2 and the Windows port of dd, both linked to from our wiki page (see my sig below for the link). If they do not work then the chances are that it is your stick that is the problem or maybe the USB port that you are using.
