[SOLVED] No wifi adapter found

Post by mzamkovs » 2020/04/26 15:15:43

Hi,
I just did a clean install of Centos 8 and have a problem to get wifi working - the wired connection works fine.
The Network Manager reports: "No wifi adapter found".
Here are some system specifications and network related prints:

I have tried to change the firmware that came with the distribution (46) with the one I found here: https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/ ... rking.html, but with no help

Code: Select all

Is NetworkManager-wifi installed?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

There is one thing in my mind.
In /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ is only one file: ifcfg-enp7s0, which corresponds to wired connection.
There is no config file for wlp0s20f3, which is a name of the wireless adapter.
Should I create this file and just use ifup command to start it? - In a case, what should I change wrt ifcfg-enp7s0 file?
In my ifcfg-enp7s0 I have following:

Code: Select all

TYPE=Ethernet
PROXY_METHOD=none
BROWSER_ONLY=no
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
DEFROUTE=yes
IPV4_FAILURE_FATAL=no
IPV6INIT=yes
IPV6_AUTOCONF=yes
IPV6_DEFROUTE=yes
IPV6_FAILURE_FATAL=no
IPV6_ADDR_GEN_MODE=stable-privacy
NAME=enp7s0
UUID=7aa86331-379d-48c7-950c-f15019af3e23
DEVICE=enp7s0
ONBOOT=yes
And checking

Code: Select all

> ip link
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: enp7s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether f8:75:a4:4d:29:b0 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: wlp0s20f3: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 9e:58:6d:b8:9a:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
4: virbr0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 52:54:00:69:d9:71 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
5: virbr0-nic: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel master virbr0 state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 52:54:00:69:d9:71 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
I see that wireless is recognized but not turned on.
Thank you!

Solution found on the Ubuntu forum: https://askubuntu.com/questions/893384/ ... untu-16-04

Solution

Add:

Code: Select all

tee /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ideapad.conf <<< "blacklist ideapad_laptop"

and restart...
