[SOLVED] - Video editor suggestions for CentOS 8

Post by warron.french » 2020/03/25 22:35:56

I have been using Roxio software for a decade or so to rip .Tivo (Tivo video files) and edit out commercials for my personal library.

The Roxio tool that I used specifically was called VideoWave, and every once in a while Microsoft screws (not my original wording) the code up and forces me to purchase newer Roxio software that may function for about a month.

I would like to be able to switch over to CentOS for all of my needs, albeit the places I work in are predominantly Microsoft shops anyway, but we can excuse them.

Are there any powerful tools available to CentOS 8 (for this forum's sake; since I run it on a physical machine) or CentOS 7 (since I also have CentO 7 running in a VBox VM)?

Thanks in advance,

rpmfusion is the place for multimedia stuff on 8 and they have Handbrake and -gui as well as ffmpeg, mencoder, mjpegtools as well as things like mplayer, mpv and vlc.

On el7 there is lots of stuff like that in nux-dextop and a fair selection in rpmfusion too but you have to pick one or the other, not mix and match as they don't play nice together. The rpmfusion packages on el7 tend to be newer but the selection is not so good.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Thanks TrevorH,
by one or the other you are referring to nux-desktop versus rpmfusion?

Yes but if it's 8 you only have the choice of rpmfusion anyway

Have you looked at OpenShot? They have an AppImage for linux 64-bit. This is a powerful piece of video editing software. However I have not tried it on EL8.
