files (nautilus) menu does not have "Preferences" ... nor does the ☰ button ...

Post by ikfredje » 2020/02/14 17:06:00

see discussion on https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/1374

Files (3.28.1-10.el8) menu in top panel is missing some menu items such as 'Preferences' in CentOS 8. Apparently this is due to fact that the Gnome Shell is "too new" and does not comply with this version of Files and does not add the menu items requested by Files in the panel menu. But this version of files also does not show the Preference item in the ☰ button menu.

Is there away to update files such that shows the preference menu in the ☰ menu.

BTW Files 3.28 is no longer maintained by Gnome.

Thanks.

The only solution for now seems to be using dconf-editor to change nautilus preferences.

Assuming Gnome Classic Shell Wayland

Code: Select all

rpm -q nautilus
nautilus-3.28.1-10.el8.x86_64
rpm -q gnome-terminal
gnome-terminal-3.28.2-3.el8.x86_64
In these two programs, you should see a new tiny box in the top left corner of the title bar, and in there, you should see the preferences.

Indeed: the very small files icon on the left of the title bar allows to access the preferences menu. Not being there in Centos 7 I totally overlooked this.
Many thanks.

Yeah, you are absolutly right, I didn't notice the tiny box ever before. Thanks!
