970 evo 1TB NVM write speed

Post by Eyecon » 2020/02/02 00:03:35

Hello,
I was running some tests using the disk utility in gnome on my 1TB Samsung 970 evo disk and I noticed that the write speeds never exceed ~700MB/sec which is far lower than the write specs of this disk(2.5GB/sec sequential). Running on a Ryzen 3970x and and Asus prime trx40 pro I also double checked the BIOS config on the M2 channels and all appears in order. Fio shows similar results although slightly higher write speeds at around 1GB/sec. Read speed all’s match the 3.5GB/sec specs of that disk on both testing utilities. Any ideas what might be going on?

TRIM? Try fstrim -v /whateverfilesystem and then retest and see if the speed has improved.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I don't even have a file system or partitions on this disk yet.
