Wifi with wpa_supplicant help

Post by joesl » 2020/01/01 21:37:10

Hello,

I'm trying to get wifi to work on an old laptop using wpa_supplicant.
I can see the card being recognized and since I can scan the networks I am pretty sure it's working, however I'm not able to get to the end of it.

I basically run (root):

Code: Select all

ip link set wlp12s0 up
wpa_passphrase "mysssid" mypass
wpa_supplicant -dd -i wlp12s0 -c /etc/wpa_supplication/wpa_supplicant.conf dhclient wlp12s0
This is /etc/wpa_supplication/wpa_supplicant.conf:

Code: Select all

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=wheel
update_config=1
ap_scan=1

network={
	ssid="mysssid"
	#psk="my_password_which_is_correct_I_checked!"
	psk=11111111111111111111111111111111111
}
And this is the output of wpa_supplicant:

Code: Select all

Nevermind, as soon as I posted I found https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1 ... art-0.html and solved the issue.
Uninstalled networkmanager which was bothering wpa_supplicant and now it works.

In CentOS 7, you may either use NetworkManager or the "network service", but you can't mix them together.

NetworkManager works differently, it offers one configuration interface (via the GUI or via the text clients like "nmcli" or "nmtui"), thus there is no need to configure separate /etc text files.

If you prefer to edit the /etc text files yourself, then NetworkManager should be disabled or moved.

In any case, its possible to specify an interface not to be used by NetworkManager, by adding in your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-your-interface the line: NM_CONTROLLED=no
