I have backported xfce 4.14 to CENTOS 8
https://sauronlenoir.be/index.php/fr/xfce
site is currently in french i do the translation this week.

a repository is created with all the rmps and srpms
direct link
https://sauronlenoir.be/repo/rpm/sauron ... noarch.rpm

xfce need gtk-doc present int Centos-PowerTools repository
this repo is desactived by default
to enabled it
edit /etc/yum.repos.d/Centos-PowerTools.repo

replace enable=0 par enable=1
install al the rpm present un the repository
reboot the pc en select xfce enjoy

this week a create a group.xml so you can perform a install with groupinstall xfce
Thank you so much for this! Gnome 3 is pants. I've used KDE for my workstations with CentOS 7 as it's easy to make it work like Windows enough that people don't mind it. XFCE is at least as configurable, so this helps with that problem quite a bit! Already running it as my desktop :)

I'd still love for someone to port over the Fedora KDE packages, though!

Sam

At the risk of just saying 'me too' - I find gnome3 almost unusable. I am using Mate where gnome3 is the default offering.

KDE Plasma Workspaces can be installed with following commands:

Code: Select all

sudo yum --enablerepo=PowerTools install xorg-x11-apps
sudo yum --enablerepo=epel-playground group install "KDE Plasma Workspaces"

For those preferring window environments, openbox now seems available for CentOS-8. For dwm fans, dwm can usually be built fairly easily

See my page http://srobb.net/dwm.html which has a link to much more detailed page, which, while for Debian, should be good.f
New users should check the FAQ and Read Me First pages

XFCE please!

It's lightweight, very useful, lot's of options to configure everything to your taste, and beautiful if you install Mate's themes!

So, please make a CentOS version with XFCE.
backup your computer and phone - full, incremental - home, other location
