Hewlet Packard DL380 Support

I've been away for a while, saw 8 released and pulled my DL380 out of storage, it's my only 64 bit server. Booted from CD to run an install from NFS but it doesn't recognize the SCSI drives. I looked at the removed hardware list and HP (Compaq) isn't listed there. I know SCSI is very old tech, I toyed with the idea of buying an HP gen 7 or gen 8 device off eBay but don't want to spend the money if HP servers aren't supported.

just 'recycled' my 380 room-heater at the local landfill. CentOS 7.6 was too advanced for it. Lost support for AMD drivers and more.

What generation is your system ?
I know that gen 9 and gen 10 are fully supported.

CentOS 8 runs without problem on my DL380 G7 and DL360 G7 servers. The only incompatibility I had was with a NIC. I did have to replace the 10GbE NC552SFP NIC with an HP 560SFP+ NIC because the NC552SFP is no longer supported.

For Proliant servers older than G7, try adding the following switch to the kernel line: hpsa.hpsa_allow_any=1

You'll need to manually add it before the installation program loads so it recognizes the older SmartArray controller. Then you'll need to manually add it again on first boot and thereafter until you make it permanent.

To make it permanent, do not edit the grub config file directly. Execute the following two commands instead:
# grubby --update-kernel=ALL --args=hpsa.hpsa_allow_any=1
# grub2-mkconfig --output=/etc/grub2.cfg

Let me know if that works for you.

There's no need to run the 2nd one of those, grubby already changed the file.

Maybe you should have checked if openBSD still supports it.
Of course, having another room-heater is fine as long as the noise is acceptable.

Heh - would that was all that went wrong with it. The final straw was losing the two power supplies to two separate 'dirty' power outages here; shipping cost as much as replacement supplies.
