Installing bind in CentOS 6 64 bit

Post by grifs71 » 2011/11/11 23:23:21

In the new version of CentOS 6 when you install bind it creates extra directories and I am a bit confused over which ones to create a symlink to the following:

/etc/named.conf
the the file resides in /var/named/chroot/etc/named.conf

From CentOS 5.7
64 bit

[mjedy@ns1 ~]$ ls -l /etc/named.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 32 Jul 8 2010 /etc/named.conf -> /var/named/chroot/etc/named.conf

In CentOS 6 with bind 64 bit

where do you create the symlink to what directory?

Will my existing named configuration work in the new release?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Did you install the bind-chroot package?

Correct, I installed the bind-chroot package as well.

The current CentOS 5 64 bit servers are setup this way as well.

all of the zone files are in /var/named/chroot/var/named
the named.conf is in /var/named/chroot/etc (then I created the symlink in /etc/named.conf
in the CentOS 5 name servers

I was going to do the same setup in CentOS6 as well, however there is extra directories not present in 5.

I am a bit confused over where to symlink the named.conf file and if any mods were needed to make it work.

I read where the release 5 bind configuration would not work in 6?

any advice/help would be great or if someone migrated and what needed to be changed in bind for it to work correctly

Just following up, have you installed bind in CentOS 6.2 ?

or has anyone migrated to 6 yet with their bind config from 5
