Centos 6 GRUB default

Hi,

I have a CentOS 6 installed directly from iso and unfortunately the root password was lost.

Trying to reset root via GRUB single user login, but the GRUB splash screen doesn't have the edit or append options.

Instead it has p, " or 'p' to enter a password to unlock the next set of features"
which is a password prompt for edit or append single mode init.

Is there a default password for this that I can find?
Kindly share any other alternative.

No, there is no default password - the default is to have no password. If it has a password then it was set by your system administrator and you would need to ask to find out what it is. Your next alternative is to use a rescue media boot but you should consult with the person who set the password as it was obviously done to keep unauthorised people out.

I have double checked but the centos installation on another PC also appears to be the same.
I had done the installation and I'm sure nothing related to GRUB was changed.

With a clean install, if you interrupt the GRUB boot, you'll notice that you still don't get the a or e options, its p.
Can you confirm this? I even checked with a CentOS 5.4 and the same appears. Infact the grub.conf doesn't even have a password line and yet it prompts for p.

No version of CentOS password protects grub by default at install time. I'm not even sure that it's a selectable choice during the install but I do know that it isn't done by default.

Yes, I'm sure its not BIOS.
I am at the flash screen and the GRUB version etc at the top.
In the classic OS box, there is the CentOS listed with option to boot or enter p to access features.

Didn't find a CentOS 6 link, but I double checked in a clean install, there is an option to set a boot loader password during install.
