Hi Adam,

Sorry that driver didn't work for you.

I've spent some time googling your error but haven't found anything that jumps out at me as providing a solution. I did find this bug that looked promising:

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61621

but I can confirm that the commit identified (and subsequent revert) are not present in our kmod driver / distro kernel so that does not appear to be our issue.

That first kmod driver package was backported from kernel-3.10.65. I've just built a second package for you to try (kmod-rt2500pci-2.3.0-2.el7.elrepo.x86_64.rpm) which is backported from a more recent kernel-3.14.29 in the hope this may improve matters.

I've just released the package to the elrepo testing repository and it's currently syncing to our mirror sites - it should show up within a few hours here:

http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el7/x86_64/RPMS/

or you can install through yum if you have elrepo set up:

yum --enablerepo=elrepo-testing update kmod-rt2500pci

Please would you test and report back how you get on.

Thanks

Ned,

The new backported drivers work flawlessly. I've been running tests on the connection over night and currently am even streaming video from the system over the wifi. This seems to have done the trick. Thanks once again for all the help from the community.

Hi

I'm a newbie to some of this posting lark but maybe you could help me along the same lines as mentioned previously.

I had the same problem with my Ralink rt2500 wireless card and the suggested fix was spectacularly successful, thank you.

That said I have now upgraded via the CR releases to 1503 - kernel-3.10.0-229.1.2.el7.x86_64 - and I get the following in dmesg

[ 17.122480] rt2x00mmio: disagrees about version of symbol rt2x00lib_dmadone
[ 17.122483] rt2x00mmio: Unknown symbol rt2x00lib_dmadone (err -22)
[ 17.122491] rt2x00mmio: disagrees about version of symbol rt2x00lib_rxdone
[ 17.122493] rt2x00mmio: Unknown symbol rt2x00lib_rxdone (err -22)
[ 17.122500] rt2x00mmio: disagrees about version of symbol rt2x00queue_get_entry
[ 17.122503] rt2x00mmio: Unknown symbol rt2x00queue_get_entry (err -22)
[ 17.122515] rt2x00mmio: disagrees about version of symbol rt2x00lib_dmastart
[ 17.122517] rt2x00mmio: Unknown symbol rt2x00lib_dmastart (err -22)

The upshot is that the wireless card no longer works.

Any ideas would be greatly welcomed.

Are you using the newer kmod from elrepo-testing?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Thanks for the quick reply - yes.

$rpm -q kmod-rt2500pci
kmod-rt2500pci-2.3.0-2.el7.elrepo.x86_64

Tried a quick update but no joy.

Just had another look at the dmesg and found the following prior to those above

[ 2.382867] rt2x00mmio: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel

Am I missing something else here?

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this. It looks like the package needs updating. I'll try to get an updated package done for el7.1 and will post back here when available - hopefully later today.

I've updated the package for el7.1, packages are currently syncing to the elrepo testing repository and should show up on the mirrors shortly:

http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el7/x86 ... x86_64.rpm

You can update with:

yum --enablerepo=elrepo-testing update kmod-rt2500pci

and reboot to your el7.1 kernel

Please would you test this package and let me know how it works for you.

Thanks.

Absolutely brilliant work.

I can confirm that your fix works.

Just for info though - looking at dmesg the following is reported earlier on in the boot :-

[ 2.381215] Request for unknown module key 'The ELRepo Project (http://elrepo.org): ELRepo.org Secure Boot Key: f365ad3481a7b20e3427b61b2a26635b83fe427b' err -11
[ 2.381330] rt2x00lib: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel

As I am not / unable to use secure boot I take it that I can ignore the above 2 lines.

Followed by the successful :-

[ 2.435465] rt2500pci 0000:00:11.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
[ 2.450651] ieee80211 phy0: rt2x00_set_chip: Info - Chipset detected - rt: 2560, rf: 0003, rev: 0004

Again, thank you very much for your help.
