Dell Optiplex 9020 Mini Tower Install CentOS 7

Hi,

I bought (Feb 2015) Optiplex 9020 Mini tower with Ubuntu 12.04 pre-installed. I plan to clean install CentOS 7 on this machine.

Intel® Core™ i7 4790, 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB HDD, Intel Integrated Graphics HD 4600, intel Q87 express chipset.

Is there any advise on this OS choice?

Are there any known driver issues?

Any advise/ suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Assuming that you have not already wiped the Ubuntu installation off the disk drive, it would be a good idea to boot up that system, execute the following two commands and then post the output they produced here --

lspci -nn
lsusb

Yes, I am yet to unbox the package, received it 6 hours ago. I have not wiped it clean.
I have to arrange for a UPS tomorrow, as power in here is not reliable. Sure I would post the output.

Now it is night here, i have to wait for another 18 hrs before i can post the output.

Thank you for posting those two lists. I have had a quick look and as far as I can see, there is nothing that would preclude the installation of CentOS 7 onto the hardware.

The three main areas that I checked were the Ethernet controller (it will use the e1000e driver), the VGA compatible controller (it will use the i915 driver) and the SATA controller (it will use the ata_piix driver).

I think the next step would be to boot the CentOS 7 installation DVD into rescue mode and see how the hardware responds.

My feeling is that you should not experience any great problem when you come to perform the actual installation. (But it is always worthwhile checking beforehand.)
