CentOS 7 + Cups

Post by jorgevisentini » 2014/08/21 12:45:11

Hello!
Sorry my english.

Was using CentOS 6.5 and CentOS installed 7 to test.

What I noticed is that the printers were not automatically mapped as the other versions.

Here we have a company in Cups 1.4.2 server that provides printers for the other machines. Only 7 on CentOS did not.

Already I disabled the firewall and SELinux and still did not work.

Anyone been through it?

PS: The two cups are working.

THX!

C7 uses cups-1.6 which basically is incompatible with versions < 1.6. Complain to Apple and Sweet for doing this and to RH for packaging it. A workaround is to create a file /etc/cups/client.conf and put something like 'ServerName <name of your old server>/version=1.1' in there. This makes cups-1.6 poll your old server with the old version of the ipp protocol.

Yes, it worked. Thank you very much.

Then it happens because of incompatibility between versions of cups?

I'll have to be careful when doing the migration so.

Thanks for the help !!

Hi - Have a similar issue - and your discussion is a little over my head. My Brother all in one (MFC-J470DW) printer/scanner worked GREAT in CentOS 6.5 and is dead in CentOS 7.0. So, for starters, how do I determine which version of CUPS i have running and then the follow question is how do I modify the file: /etc/cups/client.conf (I'll need details.) This is my personal machine at home - no "real company" network issues.
Many THANKS! in advance,
John Wilwert

But your case is only install the printer as a local printer, right?

Give just install by own manager cups. Need just the right driver.

Hi - Yes, it is a local printer - a wireless connection through my router.
I think this is more than "just the right driver" issue. The driver which worked great for release 6.5 does not work at all in release 7.0.
Thanks,

Hi - OK - an update!
I used yum info cups to learn the status of my installed CUPS software: cups.x86_64 1:1.6.3-14.el7.
So, now I'll begin to look into creating the file: /etc/cups/client.conf.
Am I on the right path here? HELP!!
THANKS!,
John Wilwert

Local printers are installed using your local web browser and localhost:631

Hi Gerald,
THANKS! - Issue resolved.
The bottom line here is that the driver rpm files were not properly installed by the Brother supplied install procedure. A yum reinstall of these rpms fixed the problem!
Again, THANKS! for all your kind help,
John Wilwert
