Could be worse:
"There is server 500 miles away, behind lock and key. Its network config has to be changed. We will be cutting the only branch that we are sitting on. Any mistake and we are down. Hard."
There are (at least) two approaches to maintaining a system:
- Add/upgrade/fix to keep her running. Duct tape on duct tape on duct tape. “I’m giving her all she’s got Captain.”
- Be ready, able, and willing to install from scratch any day. Even every day.
