How to launch an Internet DNS server?

Post by hack3rcon » 2020/10/15 08:36:39

Hello,
I have a question about launching a DNS server with CentOS for hosting a web server. Excuse me, if my question is so basic and funny. I need expert advice about it.
I registered a domain name for my web site and in the panel of it, I can enter my DNS server IP addresses. I want to launch a CentOS DNS server that my Web site using it and users can visit my website from the Internet. These two servers (DNS and Web server) are in a local network and connected to the Internet with a Gateway. Each server has an internal and a public IP address:

I want to enter my DNS server IP address in my website panel and after it, users can visit my website from the Internet. I'm thankful if anyone show me a tutorial to launch my DNS server for this goal.
Excuse me, BIND is using for internal and internet DNS server?
All tutorials that I found on the internet are about internal DNS server, but I want to launch a DNS server for hosting my website.

Thank you.

I don't think it works the way you think it does. I believe your registrar is already directing traffic (for the domain you registered) to your router. To test, "ping -c3 {the domain name you registered}". I expect you'll see your Internet IP.

Your Internet I.P. address is NOT assigned by you, but rather by your ISP. You don't need to 'advertise it' with a DNS server; your registrar is already doing that. You now need to deal with accepting/sorting your incoming connections to get them to work.

I'm no expert. Others here can help you a lot more.
Remember - importing/building packages will likely "byte you in the butt" come update time, long after you'd forgotten you did that! Use repos whenever possible.

If you want to run DNS server, then you simply run DNS server.

Obviously, a DNS server that anyone can query will be a target of malicious users too.
Therefore, correct configuration is even more important than for a private name server.

What is good config? I don't need to know, so I don't even want to.

if you don´t know how to set it up, you don´t need one...

don´t insert a weak link at your services
