Wifi Hotspot don't provide IP

Post by pavkamlc » 2020/07/09 08:30:43

When I create wifi hotspot with NetworkManager, hotspot seems to be fine, is visible, security OK, but device can't get any IP.

After this configuration:
nmcli con add type wifi ifname wlan0 con-name Hostspot autoconnect yes ssid Hostspot
nmcli con modify Hostspot 802-11-wireless.mode ap 802-11-wireless.band bg ipv4.method shared
nmcli con modify Hostspot wifi-sec.key-mgmt wpa-psk
nmcli con modify Hostspot wifi-sec.psk "veryveryhardpassword1234"
nmcli con up Hostspot

I see in journal only this:
wpa_supplicant[1289]: wlp36s0b1: AP-STA-CONNECTED a4:50:46:02:2e:5b

Is the hotspot (or anything on your network) running a DHCP server? Another less ideal option would be to statically assign an I.P. address on the actual device.
Remember - importing/building packages will likely "byte you in the butt" come update time, long after you'd forgotten you did that! Use repos whenever possible.

On second interface is DHCP server, but in shared mode may be IP provided by dnsmasq service, it don't work.
