Centos7->Centos8 wifi functionality loss

Post by matt2020 » 2020/02/01 06:08:38

Between CentOS7 and CentOS8 the wifi system / ath9k driver seems to have lost the functionality to be put in 5Ghz(a) AP mode because something has changed the settings to say no-IR on all channels.

This is shown on the same HW (PC-Engines APU) I just swapped the SD card from 7 to 8.

You can see in the CentOS7 iw list that it has channels that are _not_ blocked but the CentOS8 iw list below has all 5GHZ channels blocked.

Is this a bug ?
a misconfiguration ?

Update and more trying various configs...

Although the base Network Manager and latest hostapd (from source) do not seem to work.

manually configuring the base wpa_suplicant seems to work and allows the use of 2 channels (44 & 149) in the 5Ghz band.

Frequencies:
* 5180 MHz [36] (20.0 dBm) (no IR)
* 5200 MHz [40] (20.0 dBm) (no IR)
* 5220 MHz [44] (20.0 dBm)
* 5240 MHz [48] (20.0 dBm) (no IR)
* 5260 MHz [52] (20.0 dBm) (no IR, radar detection)
* 5280 MHz [56] (20.0 dBm) (no IR, radar detection)
* 5300 MHz [60] (20.0 dBm) (no IR, radar detection)
* 5320 MHz [64] (20.0 dBm) (no IR, radar detection)
* 5500 MHz [100] (20.0 dBm) (no IR, radar detection)
* 5520 MHz [104] (20.0 dBm) (no IR, radar detection)
* 5540 MHz [108] (19.0 dBm) (no IR, radar detection)
