Ryzen 5 2400G with VEGA Graphics 11 - Random freeze

Post by robergto » 2023/04/07 14:45:59

Hi there!
I'd like to thank for your help. I've installes Centos Stream 9 on this box, which runs with no problem under windows 10. The same thing I experience with Fedora, Ubuntu and Debian.
Thing is, after some time, and specially when playing videos, the machine would freeze, and no even keyboard works. Have to hard reset. So far, I've tried using mesa graphics, in all the linux distros I've mentioned, but same result. If I press 'e' in grub and add 'nomodeset' at the en of the kernel load statement, graphics are awful and just one monitor works (have two), but it freezes not.

Any ideas?
Thanks! And Regards!

It's likely that with nomodeset you will be using a completely different video driver as most require modesetting in order to load. I'd be reading your logs to see if there are kernel panics listed.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

How do you play the videos?
Some weeks ago on CentOS 7 I had similar problems, and a downgrade of firefox seems to have fixed it.
