That's not an easy question to answer. There is no list of supported cards. Be much easier if you post the PCI vendor/device id from the output from lspci -nn | grep -i net for a card that you have already.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Indeed, and that hampers purchase planning. How to extract the device id from devices that you have not purchased yet?
