ib_qib (Intel/QLogic InfiniBand) on CentOS Stream 8

Post by youssefeldakar » 2021/03/25 14:53:51

I am migrating an HPC cluster from CentOS Linux 7 to CentOS Stream 8. When trying to configure the InfiniBand network, which is Intel True Scale hardware, I did not find the ib_qib kernel module and had to install kmod-ib_qib from elrepo.org. That, however, did not work because of incompatible dependencies. Any suggestions how to get this kernel module on CentOS Stream?

Thanks so much in advance.

Never used stream, but I guess the answer is the same
as you got in your other thread, i.e. ELRepo does not
work with stream. So I would think your options is either
CentOS 7, or regular CentOS 8 (and later converting to
another clone/rebuild).

ELRepo kmods don't work on Stream as RH rebase the kernel almost as soon as a RHEL point release comes out so that the kernel in Stream in from 8.next not the current 8.3. You'll have to find a different solution and so far, based on RH's suggestions or lack of them, that would appear to be "find a new distro".
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
