Unable to install CENTOS-Stream 3070 unknown chipset (b74000a1)

Post by DrunkenPanda2000 » 2021/02/01 21:44:22

When i try to install Install Centosstream with windows fastboot and secureboot disable d i get the error that that something nouveau has an unknown chipset (b74000a1) I read somewhere that disabeling fastboot in windows might fix this but it doesn`t seem to.

so this makes me think that the 3070 is not yet supported ?
Can annyone help me out ?

Choose the Troubleshooting option option from the first menu and that has an option to install in basic video mode. Do that and then you can install the nvidia proprietary drivers post-install.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

The screen I'm talking about is the very first thing you see during the install. It pops up a menu with 3 choices: Install CentOS 8, Verify Media and Install CentOS 8 and Troubleshooting. If you don't see that menu then your problem is not nouveau as that's a linux kernel module and it hasn't even attempted to load the linux kernel at that point.

Im installing the centos Workstation iso.
maybe it doesnt have those options ?

Ok what i replied is i don`t get to that part because its before anything is the only thing that has happened is the green text on boot (that also appears on shutdown.

before anny gui before anny tui before anny possibility of user input.

(maybe i was not clear but i never actually got to the part you click install becouse i never got anywhere)

If you know if it is even possible to install centos stream when you have a GeForce RTX 3070 anny info on that whould be usefull

You insert the DVD/iso/whatever and power up the machine and the very first thing you see, after any messages that your BIOS puts out, is the screen image you see in step 3 on https://linoxide.com/distros/how-to-install-centos/
