Centos 8 SuperMicro server - SSD

Post by mjz » 2021/01/27 15:54:19

I have a Supermicro 1u server (dual computers, 4 drive bays). I want to either clone or re-install Centos 8 to SSD's.

Anyone do this? Any hardware issue I should be aware? (i.e. will it work).

The power requirement of the SSD is lower than a hard drive and I wonder if there might be an incompatibility between the sata /power interface used by an enterprise level hard drive vs. an SSD. They sell drive caddy's to accommodate an SSD so I suspect it should be no issue.

No. There's effectively no difference. Other than speed.

Trevor - would you clone an existing system over to the SSD or do a clean install?

I have cloned systems from HDD to SSD in the past (and from SSD to SSD etc) but I'd only use that if the target drive is as large or larger than the source.
