nvidia hardware acceleration question

Post by vcba79 » 2020/03/17 01:45:47

Hello, all

My centos 8 have nvidia card installed and using nouveau kernel module.
Now I tried to use ffmpeg with hardware acceleration, I issue command
ffmpeg -hwaccels, and output below
Hardware acceleration methods:
vdpau
cuda
vaapi
qsv
drm
opencl
qsv
cuvid

Does this mean I already get hardware acceleration enabled if I choose cuda?
Or I have to install nvidia driver?

Thanks,

chemal

It only means that ffmpeg was compiled with support for dlopen-ing the necessary nvidia libraries at runtime. Unless you install the nvidia driver, you cannot make use of cuda/cuvid/whatever, because these libraries aren't available.
