Installed NVIDIA driver - but can't get it to kick in

I've recently installed CentOS 8, and have added NVIDIA's official RHEL 8 repository
(with baseurl=http://developer.download.nvidia.com/co ... el8/x86_64 )
I installed the nvidia driver (and CUDA, and some other packages), and am expecting to see the driver loaded. But - it isn't. Nouveau is being used.

I tried disabling / black-listing nouveau; it was indeed not loaded, but the nVIDIA driver did not load instead. nvidia-xconfig? Tried that, it didn't help either. I can't modprove it either (I think).

I obviously want to avoid manually installing the driver and use the packaged version (which is what some web pages suggest). So - how can I make the NVIDIA driver "kick in"?

So if it's successfully blacklisted then it will not appear in the output from lsmod | grep -i nouv - does it?

Yes, that's right.

Does that installation method disable Wayland?

I installed the nvidia driver from the same repo. (NVIDIA Repo)
After reboot the system neither use nouveau nor nvidia driver. It uses LVMpipe driver instead.

Here my original config info :

Yeah nvidia disables wayland - you have to use x11 (at the moment).
