LVM / RAID

Post by manishp » 2023/04/21 12:57:58

I have LVM created but now I want to create RAID for it, Can I ?
Also if I am creating simple RAID for the HDD which is in use then also I am not able to create, it gives error device busy

w.r.t LVM & RAID do I ned to plan initially before installation and formatting ? OR I can configure both afterwards also ? Because looking to my above mentioned question I am not able to create RAID that's the reason I m asking?

Wrong order. You should create a RAID using mdadm and then create your LVM config on top of that.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

OK thanks
Now say I created RAID say 5 with 3 disks and configured LVM and now somehow I want to increase space so I have to extend LVM by adding more PV, is it possible because since RAID is there which requires specific count of HDD and other parameters so will it work ?

You can add new disks to mdadm arrays or replace them with larger ones and expand the array to take up the new space. You can use pvresize to resize an LVM PV, vgextend to add new PVs to a VG, lvresize to resize an LV.
