Need kernel 4.18.0-425.3.1.el8.x86_64 for Centos 8 Streams

My Centos 8 Streams servers are

and update cannot get newer release

But I'm asked to upgrade to

Is there any way to upgrade my Centos 8 Streams servers kernel ?

I checked the mirror and that is the latest Stream 8 kernel.

If you want reliable on time fixes delivered, do not use Stream. It's a beta product and most definitely not Red Hat's top priority. RHEL 8.7 came out on the 8th November and has the newer kernel and that kernel is not yet part of Stream 8.

I just updated my Rocky 8 VM and that has the kernel you are looking for already available and it is dated "Wed Nov 9 20:39:45 2022". I suspect that Alma will also have 8.7 available (I know they already released 9.1). Both are rebuilds of RHEL unlike CentOS Stream which allegedly gets things _before_ RHEL.

The "Alma 9.1" is a mere beta, because there is no RHEL 9.1 yet (or is there?).

And Alma 9.1 did drop today. Rocky will soon follow.

Third-party content for el8 and el9, for example in EPEL, ELRepo, and RPMFusion might take the longest to match up.


Regardless, the main point is that if one seeks stable RHEL-like platform like the CentOS 4/5/6/7 were, then CentOS Stream 8/9 are not the answer.
