Hi there,
I am trying to update the DNF packages on my CentOS 8 installation.
When I run "dnf update" I get the following error message:
Error:
Problem: cannot install the best update candidate for package remi-release-8.5-3.el8.remi.noarch
- nothing provides redhat-release >= 8.6 needed by remi-release-8.6-1.el8.remi.noarch
(try to add '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages or '--nobest' to use not only best candidate packages)
What should I do?
P.S. I know that CentOS 8 has been discontinued - Will migrate to a newer version asap
dnf update - Problem: cannot install the best update candidate for package
Re: dnf update - Problem: cannot install the best update candidate for package
there is no Cento 8.6
Re: dnf update - Problem: cannot install the best update candidate for package
CentOS Linux 8.5 was discontinued at the end of 2021 so you have not received nearly 6 months of security updates in that time. It would appear that the error you are currently seeing is that the package requires a package from 8.6 and there will never be a CentOS Linux 8.6. You need to pick a successor product and migrate to it. My Sig below has a list of the other "clones" of RHEL which aim to be direct CentOS Linux replacements. There is also CentOS Stream 8 but I would not use that for production workloads.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Probably better to ask in the proper forum

BTW, you have an explanation from TrevorH: You are using an unsupported version.
