CentOS install help on a custom board

Hello,

I am new here, I am working on BIOS/UEFI development for a custom intel board with Icelake CPU. the board does not have a BMC or VGA output so i am trying to do a console install. I created a CentOS 9 Bootable USB install drive and I am able to get the board to launch grub and launch the load the install in console mode. But the load seems to not progress any further after a certain point. I'm guessing something is not configured correctly in the BIOS or that there is some HW issue. But I am not sure how to debug what it is getting hung up on. Would anybody be able to help me debug this issue?

Is there anything I can enable in the output to get more information out of the boot log? I am just having a hard time pinpointing what the problem could be. whether it be hardware, UEFI firmware, or OS configuration.

Your log there seems to show that it has loaded your kernel and initramfs and booted it. I suspect the are things you can set via the kernel command line to send your syslog and installer logs to a remote server though I don't know what they would be for RHEL 9. The list of options that can be passed to the CentOS 7 installer are at https://access.redhat.com/documentation ... ot-options so maybe there are pages on the RH websites for more recent versions.

You could also pass things to tell it to do an automated install - a kickstart. You can find the documentation for kickstart syntax and options on https://access.redhat.com/documentation ... yntax.html (EL7) or https://access.redhat.com/documentation ... enced-user (EL8) and again there are probably newer versions for 9 but usually things are fairly consistent between versions.

A quick look at my PXE server shows me that I pass the following to the boot process

I'm pretty sure that if you do not pass the word 'text; on the kernel command line then the installer will attempt to start a GUI version of itself and on your set up that probably fails as soon as it starts.

Oh, and if it didn't try to start the GUI then it would drop through to the text installer which is completely brain dead and you won't want to use that. It doesn't allow for any customisation of the install at all - you get what Red Hat think is the best default and no options to change it.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
