VLC issue since an update or two ago
RHEL 8, up to date - problem started simultaneously on all my machines -
I know this is a VLC 'thing' and I've been to the videolan and other sites looking for a fix with no luck.
I've converted many of my DVDs to .iso files, using the Disks utility to make images on my server. I use VLC to watch them all over the house, rather than beating up the disks. They played fine for years, until a couple months/updates ago. Now MANY don't play properly, or at all - with differing issues depending upon which file I choose. However, a couple have popped-up messages referring to Parental Controls - which I can't find in VLC. Neither can I find helpful data on the videolan site!
Does anyone have an ideas how I can fix this? I am at a loss. If I have to re-create the files I can certainly do that, but what a project!
Thank you.

Re: VLC issue since an update or two ago
OK - I started poking around some more with little result. VLC has changed something -
The mouse is now 'inactive' in the actual video window; I can no longer 'click' on the video menu's (Play, Scenes, etc.), regardless of the ".iso" image I open. The mouse does work on the VLC menus, etc. Some of these image files no longer play audio, and many have great audio but 'trash' the video. It plays other formats just fine, but it has also begun "fixing" every .AVI file prior to playing it.
I may be wrong but I'm starting to smell a snooping 'DRM reincarnation'.
I sorta watch them on my laptop to fall asleep to at night, but sometimes on my big screen TV when my older daughter comes to visit.

Or video drivers.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Oh, poop! Now I don't know where to start again.
I might mention that the problems are with both Nvidia drivers as well as the machines that use noveau,

OK - it's starting to look like a VLC problem, and with only .ISO images - that it previously played!.

After intermittent playing with this, I'm suspecting a DRM change during a semi-recent update. I'm back to turning on the a/v system and feeding it DVDs instead of just watching a file on my laptop!
I may consider trying to get an older version of VLC, or some other player. I don't know.

Red Hat 8 rolled out some large update a couple days ago - all of a sudden videos are again playing (and mouse-clicks are recognized) in VLC.
