Post by amir385276 » 2022/01/15 17:12:30

Hi guys
I'm new in Centos 8

1- I want to change the centos 8 mirror update route to any country (like USA, Germany) for update and upgrade the centos 8, how to do it?
2- how to optimize HDD for better performance?

thanks

The package manager in CentOS Stream 8 does query the CentOS server for a list of mirrors and gets such repositories that are "near" your location. Then it downloads packages from those mirror servers. That is what the 'mirrorlist' in the repo config does: points to server that will give list of mirrors. It is possible to replace the 'mirrorlist' with 'baseurl' and thus give URL of specific mirror.

Also, CentOS 8 will not receive any updates as it went EOL at the end of 2021. You need to either move to Stream or to one of the other RHEL rebuilds (or RHEL itself). There are several RHEL 8 rebuilds: Rocky, Alma, OEL, Springdale and there is an optional to run up to 16 instances of RHEL using their free Developer Subscription (though there may be restrictions on their use in the T&C's).
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
