[Solved] Update problems RHEL 8

This began when RHEL 8.5 'dropped' this past week. On several machines I got the update to succeed, or so I thought, with the --nobest option. However, this has returned and continues, and even --nobest is no help. Is there a fix?

Looking at that post, I just realized that that is epel stuff. I remember reading this week that epel has a big problem with the 8.5 rollout. Ever since I got involved with version 8 I've been having issues with epel!! I probably need to investigate what I am getting from them, and do I actually need it.

Yes. If you do conclude that you do need something from EPEL and it is not compatible with 8.5, then report to EPEL so they know to fix it.

Auxiliary question:

When I ran yum with --nobest, all 6 machines but one with ancient hardware updated to 8.5. My most used machine (this Dell laptop) was updated perhaps yesterday. After boot this morning, it's "flaky" especially when it comes to dealing with a VirtualBox VM where mouse behavior occurs in and out of the VM confines - but not always. As a result, I'm selecting/running a previous 8.4 kernel when I boot.

Did my "--nobest" update do any real 'damage' that may ultimately result in the undesired 'wipe and start over' scenario? My hope is that when epel gets fixed I can just do a yum update from my 8.4 kernel and have the 8.5 be rebuilt with the latest.

I think you may need to look again at this. I just installed epel-release on RHEL 8.5 and then tried to install the top level packages from your list that are complaining for you with yum install qt5-qtwebkit kf5-kxmlgui kf5-kdeclarative k3b kf5-plasma kf5-knewstuff kf5-kio-widgets-libs kf5-kio-file-widgets kf5-kcmutils kf5-kbookmarks kf5-kxmlgui kde-cli-tools kf5-kdeclarative k3b-libs and everything works and presents me with

So with the RHEL 8.5 'update' I may have to uninstall/install my epel repo? While I can certainly do that, the 'logic' for minor updates escapes me.
