Very Correct, I used Rufus to create the USB stick, does this mean I have a corrupted version of the CentOS?
It most likely means you have CentOS installed in Legacy BIOS mode. Check my previous question: Boot CentOS and tell us whether /sys/firmware/efi exists.

I do not know how to recover from this but it might work to correctly create a USB stick from the iso image using the instructions in my sig below, then use that to reinstall CentOS from scratch, this time in UEFI mode. I cannot tell you if this will fix it nor if it will make the problem worse or better.

Others have suggested installing ntfs-3g but that won't help to fix this problem but it might let you access your files and make sure you have things backed up that you need.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Okay, Trevor, I'm currently trying to restore windows now with a recovery/repair windows USB stick, and after that I'll try re-installing CentOS as you've mentioned using the tool in your link, I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I don't think Windows is gone. It should all still be there so I would not reinstall it just yet.

I wasn't going to reinstall windows but to try using the Stick to repair windows and see if that helps but it didn't, CentOS still booths right away once you turn system on.

Yes I see the partition when I run the fdisk commend, windows and all my files are still intact but how to get it to boot is the problem now.

You need to boot your computer in UEFI mode, this way MS-Windows should start. How this is done is dependent on the computer you use, take a look at the user manual. Usually one can press F12 during POST screen to enter a boot menu.

If this does not work please boot CentOS again and post the output of

Code: Select all

fdisk -l /dev/sda
, executed as root user.

But if this works and you could life with that, you are free to leave your system as it is, using the boot menu of your computer BIOS/UEFI to toggle between operating systems. Installing both operating systems (MS-Windows and CentOS) in the same mode (BIOS/Legacy vs. UEFI) is not a requirement, but it is more convenient since one get a boot menu automatically when both are installed in the same mode.
