Gnome file manager crashes Xwayland/Desktop on drag/drop of files

Post by centux » 2021/08/28 16:12:33

Hi,
back from long vacation, did an update of my CentOS 8 Stream Desktop home PC. Now I face the following:

Using the gnome file manager ("Files", "Nautilus"), marking a file and starting to drag, the entire desktop crashes, I am back on a terminal login screen, and changing to other login screens fails.

From /var/log/messages:

Code: Select all

Like always, used to work before. Gnome extensions are installed, but the error remains, if I turn them off. Am I the only one to experience this?

Many thanks in advance.

If that's repeatable and goes away after a yum downgrade mutter then you'll want to report it on bugzilla.redhat.com. Stream bugs get reported under RHEL where there should be a version field of 'Stream'.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The downgrade DID HELP! (... after a reboot ...) Thanks!!

Never filed a bug though. Always something to learn. I try my best ...

Thanks again an have a great day.

For the records: This causes the crash:

Code: Select all

Installed Packages
mutter.x86_64 3.32.2-59.el8 @appstream
With the downgraded version, drag and drop works again:

Code: Select all

Installed Packages
mutter.x86_64 3.32.2-58.el8 @appstream

Definitely needs reporting then.

Yes, links, so convenient. Should learn to use them actively. Here's a try:

The bug has been cloned to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1999120
and an rpm with a fix is provided there for testing.
